It hasn't gone smoothly for the employees who were laid off or the ones who were tasked with firing them.

According to an article published in the New York Times on Friday, an engineering manager at the company threw up after receiving a list of people he was supposed to fire.

Roughly half of the workforce was cut last Friday. Some employees lost access to their work platforms before the layoffs were announced, and others were offered their jobs back after Musk's advisers realized they were needed for the company to function.

Several laid off employees have filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, saying that it persuaded them not to look for jobs elsewhere in the period leading up to Musk's takeover of the company.

The New York Times reported on Friday that Musk demanded a payroll audit to make sure that his employees were real humans before they were laid off.
