The New York Mets will continue to pay Daz.

The star closer's five-year, $102 million deal with the Mets includes $26.5 million in deferred payments until 2042.

The total value of the deal is $118.25 million, but none of that money will be deferred. He has player options for both of the following years, but he has to decide whether or not to pick them up.

The Mets will defer $5 million in each of the next two decades. From 2033 to 2042, Daz will receive over 2 million dollars a year.

Billy Eppler told reporters this week that deferred payments were a big part of the deal.

It was a big element for us, but I don't want to call it a dealbreaker. It was necessary to have that in there for the competitive balance tax.

The previous record for aReliever was set by Daz. Aroldis Chapman's five-year, $86 million deal with the New York Yankees was the highest for a relief pitcher.
