The five-year, $102 million contract with the New York Mets has deferred payments and a club option that could make it worth $118.25 million over six seasons.

The dollar amount guaranteed to a relief pitcher was a new record. A signing bonus of $12 million will be paid in January, as well as salaries of $18.25 million in two years, and $17.5 million in five years.

Daz has a player option of $18.6 million for the two years, but he has to make a decision after the 25th of January of 2020. The Mets have a $1 million buy out if they are exercised.

The state of New York will defer $5.5 million annually for the next two decades, with payments due on July 1.

There is a breakdown.

  • There will be a deferral of money in 2033 and 2034.

  • In 2036, there will be a Deferment of $2.45 million, in 2036 there will be a Deferment of $2 million and in 2037 there will be a Deferment of $400,000.

  • In 2037, there will be a deferment of $2.25 million, in 2038 there will be a deferment of $2.65 million and in 2039 there will be a deferment of $600,000.

  • In 2039, there will be a Deferment of $2 million, in 2040 there will be a Deferment of $2.65 million and in 2041 there will be a Deferment of $300,000.

  • In 2041 and 2042, the value of the money will be less than in the previous year.

The salary wouldn't be deferred if the Mets exercised the option.

Daz gets a full no-trade provision through the 2020 season and a limited no-trade provision in the following year.

He would get $100,000 for winning the World Series, $50,000 for All-Star selection, Gold Glove, league championship seriesMVP or Cy Young, and $25,000 for finishing second in Cy Young voting.

Aroldis Chapman returned to the New York Yankees after the 2016 season for an $86 million, five-year agreement, setting a new high for a relief pitcher. After voiding the last two years, Chapman signed a three-year contract that brought his earnings to $104 million over the course of six seasons.

Daz was named to the All-Star team for the second year in a row. He had 118 strikeouts in 62 appearances as New York won 101 games and earned the top National League wild card.
