Whether you're self-quarantining, your gym has canceled events as a social distancing measure, or you just want to be cautious, it's nice to have options for working out besides going to your usual gym or fitness class. Here are a few ways to stay active on your own.
The idea of social distancing, in a nutshell, is to stay six feet away from other people and not touch things that other people touch. While that's often summarized as "stay home," it's actually fine to leave your house as long as you can follow those rules.
That means you can still go for a run or a bike ride on your own, or step out into nature for a hike or other outdoorsy activities. (If you're bringing a partner for safety reasons, just be aware that the two of you might share germs. That said, if you're both feeling well or if you already live together, there's not much risk to any one particular outing.)
Miss that group fitness vibe? Fortunately you can still get it without the actual group. We tested several apps that put an instructor in your ear or on your phone or tablet screen. Try one on an exercise bike at the gym (that you wipe down thoroughly before and after) or go for a run outside.
