Sean McDermott gives an update on Josh Allen's injury. There is a time and a place for it.

Josh Allen's status continues to be up in the air for the Sunday game against the Minnesota Vikings as Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott says the team is taking a measured approach with its star quarterback.

"We're in an hour-to-hour situation here, just looking at how he's going to progress through the day and as he goes through his different tests medically, making sure that he's able to check the boxes and the progression to where we are," he said

Sources told Chris Mortensen on Monday that Allen is dealing with an elbow injury that is related to the ulnar nerve.

During the portion of practice open to the media, Allen wasn't present. He didn't participate in practice this week, but he wouldn't say what his work was. During the portion not open to the media, Allen has helped his teammates on the field.

"Josh can be a little down, but I think he's doing a good job," Davis said. He wants to be healthy and compete. He's positive despite the injuries happening. We're all getting ready to go and he's out there helping us with things that he knows.

Allen missed four games in his first year because of a right elbow injury, but he has not missed a game since.

Case Keenum would make his first start for the Bills if Allen can't play. This year, he has played in only two games and completed two of seven passes. He went 2-0 as a starter for the Cleveland Browns.

"I think we had a plan for this from the beginning," he stated. We'll see where it ends up. Potential for weather on game day is one of the things you have to keep in mind. That could be the case for the remainder of the season. We do everything we can.

If Josh can play, he needs to be Josh. Case needs to be the leader of the offense.

Allen was hurt on the final drive against the Jets when he was hit by a defensive lineman and the ball was recovered by Buffalo. After the hit, Allen threw a long pass intended for Davis, but it was incomplete and the game ended.

The quarterback has accounted for almost all of the Bills' total yards and offensive touchdown percentage.

The Bills' offense, which has not scored a passing touchdown in the past six quarters, might change a bit with Allen not in the lineup.

"For the majority of the time, the offense doesn't change," he said. Case is going to throw the ball and have fun. I'm pretty sure if he had to get into open field, he'd make a few moves. I'm happy with Case. If Case is playing on Sunday, then that's what we're going to do.
