The actor who was the voice of Batman for a long time has passed away. DC public relations said in an email that it was with profound sadness that they sent it to you. Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman, has died.

Batman, one of the most popular and captivating superheros of all time, was voiced by Conroy in Batman: The Animated Series. He would go on to voice the Caped Crusader in many other animated series and video games.

His struggles living as a closeted gay man were the subject of a piece he wrote for DC Comic's Pride anthology.

I felt my face flush, my breath grew deeper, and a voice I didn't know came out. He said that the sound shook his body.

In the press release announcing the death of Kevin, Mark Hamill said, "Kevin was perfect" I loved him like a brother and he was one of my favorites. His decency shone through everything he did. My spirits were raised every time I met him.

Like many of my peers, I woke up on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons when I was a kid. We all watched Batman: The Animated Series regardless of race. Batman and Catwoman were one of the ships that I carried with me when I was a budding writer. The voice was reminiscent of a baby blanket. One of those sounds could be used to point out the identity of the person. If you heard that voice, it made you feel good.

A lot of us think that Kevin Conroy's Batman is better than Christopher Reeve's Superman. The man was 66 years old.
