An updated version of the low-cost iPhone SE is in the works and is expected to include some major changes to bring it in line with the flagship iPhones.

We're hearing a lot of rumors, so we've rounded up all of the information in one handy guide.

Design

The smallest device that Apple has is the third- generation iPhone SE. It is the only one of its kind that has a Touch ID Home button.

There are rumors that Apple has a new design in the works for the next iPhone. The fourth-generation iPhone SE will feature an all-display design similar to Apple's flagship lineup, with Apple eliminating the Home button.

Jon Prosser, a leaker, has suggested that the iPhone SE 4 could look similar to the iPhone XR, a device that featured rounded edges instead of the squared off look of modern phones. The suggestion is plausible because the previous versions of the iPhone have all been similar.

The first, second, and third-gen versions of the iPhone are very similar to the first one. Adding the more modern look that the company has been using for the last few years would make the iPhone SE a better choice.

Display Size

Multiple rumors suggest that Apple is considering a 5.7 to 6.1-inch display for the next iteration of the device.

Prosser and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believe Apple will use a 6.1-inch display, while display analyst Ross Young believes Apple is considering both 5.7-inch and 6.1-inch display options for the next iPhone SE Young said that both options are still possible even though Apple hasn't finalized its plans for the phone.

Display Material

The iPhone SE is the only one in Apple's lineup that doesn't have a display made of liquid crystal display. All of Apple's flagship phones since the iPhone 12 have been powered by the same type of technology.

Young says that it's not clear if Apple will use either of the two technologies for the iPhone SE 4. Apple is looking at 6.1 to 6.1-inch displays from two suppliers. The iPhone SE is more affordable than other phones and it is possible that Apple will switch to anOLED for the next version of the phone.

Notch

With an all-display design, Apple is expected to adopt a notch for the iPhone SE, which is the design that Apple has used for flagship phones.

It's not clear if the iPhone SE will support Face ID and the TrueDepth camera system because of the cost of the hardware.

By the time the flagship iPhone lineup transitions to the Dynamic Island, the older notch design will set the iPhone SE apart.

Touch ID or Face ID?

The last iPhone with Touch ID is the iPhone SE. Since Face ID has been around for a while, Apple could use it for the next generation of the phone.

The Touch ID power button is similar to the iPad Air, iPad, and iPad mini, according to information from MyDrivers. The Touch ID power button is not currently used for an Apple product, but it could be used in the future.

A-Series Chip

The current iPhone SE has the same A15 chip that was in the iPhone 13 models, so it will get a prior- generation chip when it launches.

The same year as the iPhone 16 lineup and a year after the iPhone 15 will be when it arrives. There is a good chance that the iPhone SE 4 will have an A16 chip, since the standard iPhone 15 models are expected to use the A16 chip.

5G

The next-gen version of the iPhone will likely have an upgraded 5G chip with support for more bands.

There are rumors that the next iteration of the Apple product will be the iPhone SE in 2024.
