The San Francisco 49ers defensive back suffered an injury just as he was about to make his season debut.

According to the 49ers, Verrett will be out for the rest of the season with an injury.

The practice window was opened by San Francisco. He was on the physically unable to perform list at the beginning of the season while he recovered from a tornACL in the first week of the season.

The 49ers had three weeks to evaluate Verrett's performance after opening the practice window. He did not play in the Week 8 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

They had a bye in Week 9 and held Verrett out of the Rams game to give him more practice reps.

Even though he was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, there was hope that he would be ready to play this week.

Verrett's career in the National Football League has been ruined by injuries. He only played in 40 games in nine seasons after being a first round pick by the Bolts.

Verrett played a total of six games in the last two years. He did it on the first day of training camp with the Bolts in July of last year.

Verrett missed the entire season because of an ankle injury. In 13 games in 2020, he had seven pass breakups, two tackles for loss and two intercepts.

Verrett returned to San Francisco in May. The 49ers have lost two major players at the corner this season. He tore his knee in the Carolina game.

The 49ers' top two defensive backs will be Charvarius Ward and Deommodore Lenoir.
