On the eve of Kristallnacht, a push notification was sent to customers in Germany encouraging them to eat Fried Chicken. Today is memorial day for Kristallnacht. The fast food company said to treat yourself with more tender cheese on your chicken. According to Vice News, the phrase "Reich Pogrom Night" is the preferred one in the original German.

Kristallnacht was an anti-Semitic attack that took place in November of 1938. More than 90 people were killed when the Nazis set fire to houses of worship. The first pogrom of the Holocaust is thought to have taken place here.

The celebratory text wasn't the right way to commemorate the anniversary.

The company apologized in a follow-up message after people responded with outrage. An error in our system caused us to send a wrong message. We will make sure that this doesn't happen again by checking our internal processes. The second message was written in English.

An automated notification system was blamed for the blunder. A semi-automated process is used to create content for the calendar. The internal review process was not followed and a non-approved notification was shared. We have stopped app communications while we look at our process to make sure this doesn't happen again.

The gaffe was blamed on a bot by the international fast food chain. The company apologized again and said that they were committed to equity, inclusion and belonging for all.
