For a second day in a row, the recriminations about Republicans' weak Election Day performance played a prominent role on the pages and on the radio. The consensus was not kind to the former president.

The Wall Street Journal claimed that Mr. Trump was the biggest loser for the Republican Party.

The New York Post's cover on Thursday was a little more tongue-in- cheek. There was an illustration of Humpty Dumpty. The headline said, "Can all the G.O.P.'s men put the party back together again?"

John Podhoretz, a frequent critic of the former president, wrote an opinion piece for the Post in which he said that Mr. Trump was the most profound vote-Ripper in modern American history.

Fox News featured commentators who blamed Mr. Trump for dragging the entire party down. Laura Ingraham, who was one of the former president's biggest boosters in conservative media, took a jab at him.

The two Murdochs who run the Fox Corporation and its newspaper businesses are said to have soured on Mr. Trump recently and expressed concern that he would hurt the Republican Party's chances of winning big on Tuesday. People who have spoken with both Murdochs say that his refusal to accept the results of the 2020 election made them uncomfortable with him.

During the spring and summer, Mr. Trump didn't call in as often as he used to. Fox News didn't interview him for more than 100 days.

Murdoch media properties have been critical of the former president before. The Journal and the Post published editorials condemning his actions on January 6, 2021.

The pendulum can swing back and forth over the course of the complicated relationship between Murdoch and Trump. After drawing the ire of the former president and his supporters, Fox News followed its election night prediction that Mr. Trump would lose Arizona in 2020. The network and its parent company are being sued for defamation by a voting systems company.

Fox guests and anchor blamed Mr. Trump for the disappointing results on Tuesday. He wrote on Truth Social that Fox News was always gone when he began his journey. They are gone now, he said. It's an opportunity for another media outlet to make a lot of money.
