  • The Republican Party needs to move past Trump.

  • "I want to see the party move forward," he said.

  • In New York, a top House Democrat was ousted.

The Republican congressman-elect said that it was time for the GOP to move on from Donald Trump.

"I'd like to see the party move forward and focus on the future."

On a night where House Republicans failed to see their hopes of a wave election come true, Lawler is still a bright spot. A major upset of a sitting Democratic Party leader is projected to have taken place.

As we move forward, moving in a different direction is a good thing and not a bad thing.

"I think more focus needs to be on the substance of the issues rather than the personality of the person," he said.

It was assumed that he would be announcing a third campaign. On Tuesday night, Trump's political brand was bruised as some of his most important endorsements fell flat, especially Dr. Mehmet Oz, who lost a GOP-held Senate seat in Pennsylvania

Some GOP figures are trying to move the GOP away from Trump. Rep Peter King retired before the 2020 elections. According to The New York Times, King said that the party needed a new leader.

He should not be the face of the Republican Party.

The majority of the house is too close to call. The Republicans are more likely to flip the lower chamber than not. The race will not be officially over until results are certified and canvassed.
