At the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Avelo Airlines is growing in leaps and bounds.
In February, the ultra-low-cost startup's fifth crew base will be located at the airport in the Research Triangle area. The region isn't a hub for airlines. The airport has 30% of the domestic market share according to Delta Air Lines.
Avelo wants to change things with its Florida routes.

3; Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on Feb. The introductory fares are $29 one-way for the RDU-to-MCO route and $39 one-way for the five other routes.

Avelo will be the only airline that serves RDU, but will face stiff competition from other airlines. Avelo will compete with other airlines. Avelo is flying to TPA from a number of airlines. One of the airline's bases is Avelo, which has the most competition of any of them. It's going to go head-to-head with several airlines.
Avelo will be the only airline that flies from Delaware.
The airline will base a single Boeing plane at RDU, and commit to base a second plane there in the second quarter of 2023. The airline has 11 next-gen models in its fleet and expects to have 16 by March. The airline wants to base five to seven planes at RDU.
At least 50 jobs are expected to be created at RDU by the airline, including pilots and flight attendants.
Avelo's crew bases include RDU and MCO, as well as Hollywood Burbank Airport, Tweed-New Haven Airport, and a forthcoming base in Delaware. RDU will still be served by Avelo from HVN.
