Nathan Jones signs Southampton contract
Jones won Championship Manager of the Year last season

Nathan Jones has been named as the new manager of the Saints.

Jones left Championship side Luton Town to take up the role and has signed a three-and-a-half year contract

After Sunday's defeat, Hasenhuttl was fired.

Jones said he was proud to be given the chance.

I've known a lot about the club from when it was called The Dell to when it became St Mary's.

Jones was watching from the stands as Saints beat Wednesday on penalties.

He will be in charge of his first game this weekend.

Hasenhuttl had one win in nine matches and was dismissed by the club.

Jones left the club in the middle of his second spell after signing a five-year deal with the Hatters.

He will be joined at St Mary's by two other people.

A lot of my family are fans of Saints.

This club in particular, because of how it's run, because of the structure, because of how they look deeper than just results, really appeals to me.

They were beaten in the semi-finals of the play-offs by the Terriers.

In January 2016 he became the first full-time manager in the history of the club when they were struggling in League Two.

When Jones left for a spell in charge of Potters, the Hatters were second in League One and had just been promoted to the top flight.

They only won six of 38 matches during his time there. Jones returned to Kenilworth Road in May 2020 after a successful second spell with Luton.

On the final day of the season that had been interrupted by the Covid-19 epidemic, he helped the Hatters stave off the danger of going down. The following campaign, the Hatters finished twelfth.

Mick Harford will be in charge of the game against the Millers.

Gary Sweet thanked Jones for giving them some fantastic memories and a team to be proud of.

The fact we are looking up towards the premier league, rather than down towards League one as we were when we brought Nathan back to the club, makes the Luton Town job an attractive one.
