Marcus Spears goes off on Aaron Rodgers (2:03)

If the Packers don't make the playoffs, Marcus Spears wouldn't bench Rodgers. There is a time and a place.

All Rodgers talked about was the good times and fond memories he had with Mike McCarthy.

McCarthy is in his third season as the coach of the Dallas Cowboys and Rodgers said their relationship has not changed. McCarthy will be playing against his old team.

During a session with reporters that was dominated by questions about his former coach, Rodgers said that he and his coach have always been in touch.

As time goes by, the gratitude for that time as you look back on your career goes up a bit. This game and life is about the journey, so I appreciate the small things more. We spent a lot of time together and I will always be tied with him. My longest-tenured play- caller. As the years go by, I'm more thankful for those years.

When the Packers drafted Rodgers, McCarthy wasn't their coach. The San Francisco 49ers picked Alex Smith over Rodgers in the first round of the draft. McCarthy was hired as the Packers' head coach in the summer of 2010 and helped develop Rodgers while he was sitting behind Favre.

They were together until McCarthy was fired. They won the Super Bowl and Rodgers won his first two awards.

There were some rocky moments, like when McCarthy moved on from his quarterbacks coach without consulting Rodgers. During the postgame news conference after the 22-0 win over the Bills, Rodgers criticized the offense and the play calling.

When you're able to take time away and you have that separation, it's natural to have a greater sense of appreciation and gratitude for that time.

"I think it's normal to think about the things you really loved about that relationship, that style or that program and just ponder on how special some of those moments were, how the journey is really the most important thing and the up and downs." It gives you perspective on life because of the incredible moments, the highs, and the lows we had. Life isn't all about the good times. The downs are the most important lessons.

The reception from the crowd at Lambeau Field needs to be as warm as it can be, according to Rodgers.

McCarthy got emotional at his news conference when he talked about the Packers.

Mike Pittsburgh has a big soft teddy bear on the inside. That's a good combination to have. In both team settings and one-on-one settings, there were tears. He and I cried a lot over the years in conversations. I like to see Mike let his feelings come out.
