The Washington Commanders invoked the shooting of Brian Robinson in their response to the District of Columbia Attorney General.
The office of the D.C. Attorney General said they would be holding a news conference on Thursday.
It is not known what the announcement will be. The Commanders have been the subject of an investigation by his office and the Virginia attorney general. Sources familiar with the matter said that the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of Virginia has opened a criminal investigation into the allegations.
Robinson, who was shot twice in the right leg during a robbery attempt while going to a restaurant in D.C., was mentioned in a statement by a Commanders spokesman.
A player on the team was shot multiple times in broad daylight. Despite the out-of-control violent crime in DC, the Washington Commanders learned for the first time on social media that the D.C. Attorney General will be holding a press conference tomorrow.
Robinson had surgery on his knee but was able to play in a game six weeks later and become a feel-good story for the franchise.
Ryan Williams wasn't aware of Robinson's inclusion until it became public.
Williams said that the Commanders handled the Brian Robinson situation with care and class. I was so thankful for everything. The person hiding behind this statement is not one of the great humans in that building.
Up until an hour ago, the Commanders handled the Brian Robinson situation with so much care, sincerity and class. And I was so grateful for all of it.
Although I know that there are some great humans in that building, whoever is hiding behind this statement is not one of them. https://t.co/cnD0DtUfqm
