For a few hours this morning, Techcrunch was recognized as a news organization with enough merit to warrant a highly-coveted designation. Along with the designation on all other accounts that earned this momentous honor, this elite classification has now been revoked.
A grey " official" badge was rolled out this morning by the social networking site. Since the blue checkmark can be purchased for $8 per month, this designation was meant to signify important accounts to protect them against impersonation, the same purpose that the blue check used to serve. Our official check has moved on to a better place after a few hours of acknowledgement from our new bird app overlords.
Musk replied, "I just killed it", after Brownlee posted about his grey official badge. The CEO of the two companies said that the blue check would be the leveler.
Musk took to his own account to say that there will be a lot of dumb things happening on the social network. We will keep the things that work and the things that don't.
Please note that Twitter will do lots of dumb things in coming months.
We will keep what works & change what doesn’t.

Esther Crawford, the product manager who announced the roll out of official badges last night, said that this reversal may be temporary. The fact that we are not giving individuals the official label right now is whatMusk mentioned.
Our future as a Super Extra verified account is still up in the air.
It was great to be recognized as an official by the social networking site. Darrell Etherington said in a statement that they will always look back on their time as official with fond recollection.
An in-depth investigation into the Wayback Machine has revealed that TechCrunch has had a blue check on the social network for at least 10 years. Sources inside of TechCrunch say that the meaningful memories will not be forgotten, even though it was an official account for a short time.
Despite no longer being official, we will continue to act in such a way as we hope reflects the high honor of the mantle now that we are once again reduced to just a single checkmark. Thanks go to our community for sticking with us.
