The Brooklyn Nets have a new coach.

The Brooklyn Nets announced on Wednesday that they will retain their head coach for the remainder of the season.

The promotion comes with a contract that runs through the 24th season.

The position opened after the Nets parted ways with Steve Nash. It didn't take long for other names to be mentioned as replacements for the acting head coach that day.

He thanked the team for an amazing experience after he was let go.

In his first and second seasons, Nash lost in the second round of the playoffs.

The second season didn't go as planned, as Kevin Durant dealt with injury concerns, James Harden was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, and Kyrie Irving missed significant time because he wasn't up to date with his vaccinations.

Simmons didn't play last season.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reported in August that Nets governor Joe Tsai was given an ultimatum to either fire Nash or trade him by Kevin Costner.

Heading into a new campaign, it was quite the tone for the 34 year old to stay.

Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics was a strong front-runner after Nash was fired. The team was expected to hire a former Utah Jazz head coach, according to Adrian.

Sean Marks told reporters that the team hadn't decided on a new coach.

The Nets decided to stick with Vaughn, who is now in charge of leading a team that has the talent to compete for a championship but is yet to reach its ceiling.

Simmons is a two-time All-Defensive selection and the list of role players includes sharp-shooters like Curry and Harris.

The outlook of the Eastern Conference ahead of the playoffs will be affected by whether or not Vaughn can mold that talent into a champion.

So far, the Nets are 2-2. As the team tries to get back on track, keeping him in the fold gives it some stability.
