The candidates in Georgia's Senate race didn't know the outcome of the election until Wednesday morning.
According to the Secretary of State's website, incumbent Raphael Warnock had a small lead over his opponent, Republican Herschel Walker. Fulton County is located in the heart of metro Atlanta.
At about 2 a.m., there was a sign. About 30,000 votes separate Walker's and Warnock's votes. The race could go to a second round if the remaining ballots push one of the candidates over the mark.
Brian Kemp wins the Georgia election to win a second term.
The results of the Georgia election can be tracked.
At his Election Night gathering about 1:45 a.m., he said, "Good evening Georgia, or perhaps I should say good morning."
We don't know what we know. When they finish counting the votes from today's election, I will have received more votes than my opponent. I might be a little tired at the moment. We will hear from the people of Georgia even if it's later tonight or tomorrow.
The Walker campaign already acknowledged that the race won't be decided until Wednesday, according to Emma Hurt.
One of the races that may determine control of congress is the senate race in Georgia. The race has brought in a lot of money.
According to polling, Herschel Walker had a slight lead, but the race was basically a toss up. Both candidates had less than half of the popular vote.
The Senate race was one of the most expensive in the country. The candidates raised more money than any other race and spent more money than any other race in the country.
According to Open Secrets, Warnock was the leader in both raising and spending money. Walker spent $32 million on raising $37 million.
Both of the people are new to politics. Walker had no experience as an elected official before he was elected to the Senate seat.
In 2005 he became the senior pastor at the church that his father pastored.
The University of Georgia won a national title in Walker's freshman year, and he went on to win the Heisman trophy. Walker was a professional football player for 15 years. Since then, he has been involved in many business ventures.
Abortion, voting rights, the economy, and the scheduling of the sole debate were some of the issues that the candidates clashed on.
The Inflation Reduction Act capping costs for those on Medicare was one of the things he focused on.
Walker wants to lower taxes and advocate less government regulation. He supported Kemp's proposal for a limited Medicaid expansion, which was blocked by the Biden administration, as well as Kemp's new election bill, which made it more difficult to vote. During the debate he said he supported Georgia's law which included exceptions for rape or incest.
There were many scandals over the course of the race. It was revealed in June that Walker had more than one child. Walker's ex- wife said he threatened her with violence. Walker claimed that he was involved with the FBI during a story about being so angry with someone that he grabbed a gun and headed off to kill him.
Walker exaggerated the success of his businesses, including one that does not seem to exist, and donated profits from companies despite little evidence. Walker paid for two abortions, one in 1993 and one in 2009, even though he advocated for a complete ban on abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest.
The housing project was owned by a charity associated with the church. In one case, the management company filed eviction notices for less than $30. According to the company, no one had been evicted for non-payment since June of 2020 and neither the church nor the company were involved in the building operation.
A special election was held to fill out the term of the late Johnny Isakson. He won the special election to replace Isakson.
With mounting medical issues, Isakson retired at the end of the year with two years left in his term. Because Isakson's term was not complete, he only served briefly in office before running for a full six-year term.
Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff will represent Georgia's interests at the federal level regardless of the outcome of the race.
The Senate has several committees, including the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban affairs. He is a member of the congressional joint economic committee.
Walker easily won his primary against several other Republican challengers with over 70% of the vote.
