NBC News projected that the seat in the U.S. Senate would remain red for the time being.

The GOP has a good chance of regaining control of the Senate, which is currently split between the two major parties.

Rob Portman, a two-term Republican senator, decided to retire. In the last two elections, Ohio has voted for Donald Trump.

Ryan and Vance were both populists who wanted to appeal to the working class.

Ryan tried to distance himself from the president by opposing the student loan forgiveness program and the party's stance on immigration. He said that he was campaigning against Nancy Pelosi for the position of minority leader in 2016 because he didn't like her leadership style. Ryan said in the debate that he could return to San Francisco to debate Pelosi.

Ryan didn't get much support from Democrats on the national level. The Senate Leadership Fund, which is linked to GOP Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell, gave nearly $30 million to the candidate.

There is a venture capitalist named Vance. Early on, Thiel was a major donor to the campaign and supported Narya Capital. Ryan wanted to show that Vance cares more about San Francisco and Washington, D.C. than his home state.

His book "Hillbilly Elegy" detailed white poverty and addiction in the region. He was part of the "Never Trump" movement and later embraced the former president.

His bid to win the nomination was boosted by Trump's endorsement. At a rally for the candidate, the former president said that J.D. wanted his support so bad.
