According to media reports, Ukraine's space-based communications infrastructure has taken a hit due to funding problems.

The ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine has relied on the Starlink satellite- internet constellation. It is more difficult to knock out Starlink service than it is to get coverage from the ground.

The invasion has cost the Ukrainian government a lot of money. CNN reported on Monday that 1,300 of the Starlink terminals used by the military went dark two weeks ago.

The Starlink megaconstellation was photographed.

CNN reported that a person briefed on the situation said the recent outage was a huge problem for the Ukrainian military. The terminals had been disconnected because of a lack of funding.

The 1,300 terminals were bought from a British company. The outlet said that the Ukrainian government was being charged $2,500 per terminal.

Starlink customers pay $110 per month for normal services, but less than Starlink Maritime, which provides coverage to ships at sea for $5,000 per month.

The Ukrainian defense department asked the British military if they could start footing the bill in order to prevent the outage. According to CNN, the British decided to steer its aid away from the Ukranian people.

There are about 25,000 Starlink terminals in Ukranian. In July, the nation's commander in chief wrote a letter to Musk stating that just 4,000 terminals had been deployed by the military.

Musk said that his company has been subsidizing the costs of Starlink service. The billionaire said last month that he was losing $20 million a month on Starlink due to not paying service and costs related to cyberwar defense.

CNN previously reported that the U.S. military was asked to start footing part of the bill by the company. According to CNN, talks to that effect are still going on, despite the fact that that has not happened.

There are a lot of negotiations going on. The official told CNN that everyone in the building knew they would pay them.
