Since the acquisition of the company by Musk last month, it has been in a state of disrepair.
Confusion over how the platform will proceed and workforce anger over mass layoffs have left some in the community looking for an alternative.
There is a lot of concern over the future of the blue checkmark, a tick on the profile page of verified users.
The once-coveted checkmark is going to be offered to anyone who pays a new $8 monthly fee for the premium service.
The old verification mark gave followers some assurance that the account had a genuine connection with the name attached to it With the mark going out to anyone willing to pay, it seems like it has lost its meaning.
The new account is called the official account. There is a checkmark and the words "official account" next to it.
According to Esther Crawford, the new mark can't be purchased and will not be given to previously verified accounts.
A lot of people have asked about how you will be able to distinguish between blue subscribers with blue checkmarks and accounts that are verified as official, which is why we are introducing the official label to selected accounts when we launch.
The official label is not available for purchase for some accounts. Major media outlets, publishers and some public figures are included in the accounts that will receive it.
Not all previously verified accounts will get the “Official” label and the label is not available for purchase. Accounts that will receive it include government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures.

Crawford suggests that if they are particularly prominent, they may be moved away from verification. When it starts to roll out a new label, how it makes that decision should become clear.
The old verification mark will no longer be used for accounts with an official label, as well as accounts without either mark.
You might think that it would be simpler to let verified users retain the verified checkmark and to create a new mark for Blue subscribers, but that is not the case.
