  • Twitter is launching a new label for verified accounts.
  • The new "Official" label is meant to differentiate verified accounts from Twitter Blue subscribers.
  • It will be rolled out to select accounts, such as media outlets and government accounts.

The new "OFFICIAL" label will be used to steer clear of confusion between verified and blue checkmarks. This isn't for every person.

A new verification feature will be introduced by the social media company, according to Esther Crawford. The official status will be given to accounts that have a blue tick. New accounts that pass the verification process will likely be given the same label.

The new label won't be available to everyone. Even if a user has a blue checkmark next to their profile name, they won't be able to use it.

The new status will only be granted to government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers and some public figures. Blue subscribers don't need to verify their identity.

The blue tick is one of the features that the Blue subscription promises to give subscribers. The blue checkmark, which was once free and coveted by many, will no longer guarantee authenticity.

It may solve the current confusion surrounding the blue checkmark and verification status, but it may leave some still confused as the previous blue "Verified" Badge used to be an elusive symbol that wasn't accessible to everyone. Anyone will be able to pay for it soon.
