There are two different types of checkmark badges that will be rolled out by the social media platform.

A lot of people have asked about how you'll be able to distinguish between official and unofficial accounts, which is why we're introducing the official label to select accounts when we launch.

Some accounts will have a grey "official" Badge on their profile, while others will have a blue check Badge next to their account name and profile picture. It's not clear if the official designation will appear by the account. The change to the current account hasn't been made yet, as the changes to the account will be rolled out in November.

The official label is not available for purchase for some previously verified accounts. Major media outlets, publishers and some public figures are included in the accounts that will receive it.

A new direction for the platform has been revealed since the acquisition of the company by Musk. Crawford said on Tuesday that the once-free verification badge will no longer have an identification requirement and will be available for anyone to purchase.

Critics worry that anyone can purchase a verification symbol and impersonate others on the platform and commit fraud.

Representatives for both Crawford and Musk did not respond to Insider's questions.
