Gmail’s new interface is here to stay

The switch to a new integrated view starts this month.

We are all going to have to get used to the new interface of Gmail after the company announced it is getting rid of the option to return to the previous one. Material Design 3 is part of that.

There are options for Mail, chat, Spaces, and Meet on the far- left sidebar of the new layout. Clicking on the pop-out menu makes the app fill the entire screen.

You can turn off Meet and chat from your settings. You won't see the extra sidebar and you'll have a simpler screen for Gmail.

Since February, when the layout was first tested, users have not been pushed toward the option. The new layout swaps you over by default. This change will be matched up with some of the other changes it has applied to its other workspace apps.

I can't see myself returning to the old layout as I've been using the new one for a while. It took a while to get used to, but once I turned off the extra apps, it felt like the old Gmail.
