Will Gerard Pique go down as one of history's best? (1:36)

When La Liga breaks for the World Cup, there will be an end to the career of the player, according to the man. There is a time and a place for it.

5:12 PM ET

A 10-man Barcelona defeated Osasuna on Tuesday by a score of 2-1.

An early goal for Osasuna and a red card for Robert Lewandowski looked to have cornered Barcelona, with a red card for on-the- bench Sergi Roberto in his final match of his club career only adding insult to injury.

Pedri and Raphinha scored for Barcelona in the second half, even though they were down a man.

Sam Marsden had a reaction to the game.

Player ratings, best and worst performers, highlights and notable moments, post- match quotes, and key statistics are included.

Rapid reaction

1. 10-man Barca dig deep for biggest win of the season

This was the biggest win of the season so far.

They would have liked to have taken a point from Tuesday's game at Osasuna. On the day he lamented his lack of goals since joining, Frenkie de Jong scored his second goal of the season in the 85th minute after he picked out the run of the Brazilian.

It didn't look good for Barcelona. They were sloppy on a corner kick and conceded. They were wound up by refereeing decisions that they felt went against them because Robert Lewandowski was silly.

Despite playing for an hour with 10 men, they still managed to leave Pamplona with a victory that ensures they will sit top of LaLiga during the World Cup break.

At 19 years old, Pedri is ready to replace Busquets in the middle of the field. His poor play led to the corner that Osasuna scored from and he gave the ball again moments later for Chimy Avila to hit the side net.

At the break, Barcelona were able to regroup and get the three points they needed.

2. Lewandowski and Pique see red

There wasn't a 617th appearance for the man. He did not make it onto the pitch after being sent off at the half for remonstrating with the referee. He has been dismissed from Barcelona 11 times.

Barcelona were furious that Manzano's goal had not been ruled out for a foul on Marcos Alonso, and they were angry that the early goal had not been ruled out for a foul by Unai.

The referee said that the defender was shown a red card after the halftime whistle for complaining.

Although they were disappointed that he was sent off in the first half, they should not complain about the two yellow cards he received. His dismissal was his first in three years.

Poland may be happy that he got an extra hour off before the World Cup.

3. Osasuna play well but miss chance to go third

The fact that Osasuna have been so good this season is a sign of how good they are. They moved to third in LaLiga after taking the lead. They should be in the running for the European places in the New Year.

The place of Pamplona has always been difficult for teams to travel to. They were the first team to take points of Madrid this season, too, and they will feel like they should have done the same against Barcelona.

They weren't able to make that advantage pay. They had chances, and until the end it looked like they might get a point, but Ante Budimir's late goal ended those hopes.

The proceedings went from bad to worse for Barcelona when Lewandowski was sent off in the 31st minute.

Neither Lewandowski nor anyone on Barcelona's side have much of an argument, as he clearly squared up his opponent with no regard for the location of the ball.
