A partial outage that affected its website and app for two hours on Tuesday is being monitored by the exchange. The company's infrastructure wasn't affected, but the easiest ways to use those services were cut off.
A fix for the network issues was being implemented around an hour and a half after the initial announcement. The company said that the fix had been implemented and that it was monitoring to make sure it worked.
As the outage occurred, another exchange announced that it would acquire FTX. This isn't the first time that Coinbase has struggled to cope with a surge in trading; earlier this year and in 2021. This instance doesn't seem to be as severe, though there are likely fewer traders pounding on the server than at the beginning.
