Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the New York Yankees are expected to make Anthony Rizzo a $19.65 million offer.

The first baseman will not be on the field for the rest of the day. If he accepted the offer, he'd stay with the Yankees and become a free agent. New York will get compensation if he declines.

In 130 games for the Yankees last season, he hit a career-high 32 homers and drove in 75 runs.

In the playoffs, the veteran hit.270 with a.432 on-base percentage and two home runs. He hit a home run as the Yankees were swept in the ALCS by the Astros.

After spending the majority of his career with the Cubs, he joined the Yankees in a trade in the middle of the 2020 season. He signed a two-year, $32 million extension with New York, but he declined the second year's player option.

It's important for the Yankees to retain the 33-year-old because of the presence of Judge. There were only two other players who hit more than 15 home runs.

There would be a drop-off in offensive power to the lineup if DJ LeMahieu plays first base.
