Ct. American military volunteer Paul Lee Kim died while helping to liberate Mykolaiv from the Russians.

Kim was born in Houston and served in the US Army for 12 years. He was an ROTC instructor and an infantry officer.

Kim joined the International Legion of Territorial Defense in August after the start of the Ukrainian counter- attack.

Kim stated that unless we stopped them here, we would end up fighting them in the west.

The circumstances surrounding Kim's death were shared by Spravdi.

Kim and his unit were fighting in the south of the Mykolaiv Oblast region, which had been captured by the Russians. The battle near Ternovi Pody resulted in a large amount of shelling by the Russians. The two Ukrainian soldiers were unable to escape the attack. Kim's unit was renamed "Team Kilo" by the International Legion.

Kim passed away two days before his 35th birthday.

Kim was passionate in traveling, learning and teaching about history and culture, and he was also a chef. He put other people before himself. Dad jokes, puns, and his friends and family were some of the things he loved.

Paul was the epitome of love and joy. He will be missed by a lot of people.
