Russia is accused of disguising its troops as civilians in order to prepare for fighting in the streets.
According to a Friday assessment by the Institute for the Study of War, part of Russia's forces have been withdrawn from northwestern Kherson.
It's not clear if Russian troops will stay in Kherson city to defend it. Kirill Stremousov, a Moscow-installed official running the occupied city, has said that Russian troops will withdraw from the east of the river.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on civilians in Kherson to leave the area, but Ukrainian officials are wary that the rumors of a withdrawal could be a trap.
