The designers of the integration had to consider the extent to which the videos should be allowed to play. The initial design requires viewers to scroll through Shorts videos manually by pressing the up and down arrows on their TV remote.

Evans' team decided against a fully lean-back experience, where you turn it on and shorts cycle through, because they didn't want to change it in the future.

The design presents a single Shorts video at a time in the center of the TV screen surrounded by white space that changes color according to the overall look of the video.

As of now, at least one thing didn't test. The white space was filled with advertisements. Susan Cadrecha says that the experience will be ad-free initially. There is a chance that ads will be added at some point, but how they will be integrated into the Shorts on TV experience is not known.

The team at the shorts app is looking at how to integrate comments into TV viewing. Evans says that a mobile format like this would allow you to use your phone as a companion and leave comments on TV.
