Roberto Firmino has been left out of the Brazil squad for the World Cup, but two other forwards have been named.

Firmino was the most noticeable omission with Martinelli, who only has 3 caps for his country, preferred.

Manchester United's Casemiro and Fred have both been called up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup, as well as fellow Manchester United player Bruno Gui, who has been called up for the first time.

Alisson and Ederson are both in the squad along with Thiago Silva, the captain of the team.

There is also a call-up for 39-year-old Dani Alves who is currently playing for Mexican side PUMAS, but Gabriel, who scored for the Gunners in their win at Chelsea on Sunday, has been left out.

Firmino is one of four players called up to Brazil's final squad for the World Cup in September, but they won't be going to Qatar.

Due to a thigh injury, Phillipe Coutinho won't be able to play in the tournament.

'Martinelli has forced his way in, but risky not taking Firmino'

Tim Vickery is a football expert.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli didn't make the final squad. Gabriel Magalhaes was left out of the squad because the coach didn't trust him enough or he wasn't good enough.

Gabriel Martinelli gave the coach sleepless nights. The coach said that Martinelli was the best player on the field after the win by the team.

Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison and Antony
South American football expert Tim Vickery explains Brazil's World Cup squad announcement, including the surprise omission of Liverpool's Roberto Firmino and the inclusion of Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli.

I don't think Martinelli was in the squad a month or so ago, but he has forced his way in through sheer week- after-week excellence. It has been a tough decision. What are you going to do to get him in? The two ways were different.

One option was to take a 39-year-old right-back. That's the thing that is getting most of the headlines over here, that Alves is still included, even though he doesn't have a lot of football behind him. They could have left him out and used Eder Militao to cover the right back position.

The guy who has been left out is Roberto Firmino of the Reds. Brazil is taking a small risk. There are more wide strikers in Brazil than they know what to do with. They do not have a straight replacement for the Brazilian.

He picked up two yellow cards in the two games they played. He will be suspended if he does that.

Richarlison

There is no obvious replacement for him in that position. They decided to leave Firmino out. Rodrygo is expected to step into that role if necessary.

Richarlison is in the team. He has seven goals in his last six games for Brazil. They need someone to finish in the penalty area and he has been the one to do it.

"Brazil's doctor came over and had a look at him, and they are very confident that he's going to be in top shape for the tournament."
