McKinney hurt his hand in an ATV accident during the team's bye week and will be out for a while.

McKinney has started all eight games for the Giants this season and has 38 tackles, two for loss, one sack, and a forced fumbled ball.

Losing McKinney is a big blow. The safety has been a leader and signal-caller on the defense, a respected teammate, and one of the best players on a surprising playoff contender.

The Giants are two games behind the Eagles and tied with the Cowboys in the same division.

The defense has been a big part of the team's resurgence.

With McKinney out, there could be a bigger role for a new player. The team has a veteran on the practice squad, as well as a special teams player who only played one snap at safety this season.

McKinney was one of the best atReliability andDurability. He has not missed a defensive snap since the third week of the season.

The Giants have a relatively easy schedule over the next two weeks, with Houston and Detroit on deck and both at home.

There are four straight games against the Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Eagles and Vikings before the Vikings come to town on Christmas Eve.

The Giants will probably find out if they are back in the playoffs in the next five games. During that time, the team hopes McKinney can return.
