It will soon be possible for guests to filter their search results by the total cost of the stay before taxes, which will include compulsory charges such as cleaning fees. The appearance of these fees separate from nightly rates has been criticized for being deceptive. The total cost of nightly rates and fees will be displayed on search results, map, price filter, and individual listing pages with the planned "display total price" switch.
A full price breakdown of the service fees, discounts, and taxes will also be made available. The best total prices will be ranked higher in search results. Affordability is important and we started as an affordable alternative to hotels. We need to help our Hosts give you great value.
Airbnb promised to conduct a comprehensive review of fees by December 15th, 2021. The Wall Street Journal reported that feedback from hosts and guests led to a delay in fee transparency.
