The Golden State Warriors became the first defending champion to start the season 0-6 on the road.
They are still positive as they return to San Francisco. The Warriors went on to win the title after a 2-9 start to the season.
During the NBA season, things can go off the rails, according to Kerr. Understanding how to work through that is a big part of being a good team.
After a win at home over the Miami Heat, the Warriors went on to lose their next five games. Most of the games came down to the last few minutes, and the Warriors believe they could have won most of them.
Draymond Green said during the road trip that the Warriors needed to eliminate the ones that cost them games. Kerr said boxing out and fouling were the two biggest concerns and that they would be emphasized during practice this week.
The Warriors are ranked 25th in the NBA in points per shot allowed in transition and 23rd in field goal percentage allowed in transition. The lowest field goal percentage was given last season.
Last year, Golden State ranked sixth in defensive rebound.
Thompson said that they need to bring more of a sense of urgentness. We had a long run, but it's over. We're used to playing that level of basketball, so it's time to get into high gear. I'm sure we'll do that.
Thompson said that they knew how good they were in the building. We are going to be off to a fresh start.
Changes to the rotation will be made. Jonathan Kuminga has earned a spot in the rotation after playing a season-high 38 minutes against the Pelicans. Before Friday's game in New Orleans, Kuminga had played in two of Golden State's previous five games.
Kerr is excited to play him. He needs to keep doing what he is doing.
Thompson wants to see his energy at its peak all the time. He's a really good athlete. When he plays hard, he can do a lot of things. He's good at cutting. He is a great defensive player. I am looking forward to Jonathan. He can help if his effort is there.
Kerr wouldn't say what other changes would be made or how Kuminga would get his minutes.
There are difficult decisions every season for me. Kerr said that you just have to be honest. Guys don't stay in the rotation. There is a group of guys who are committed to each other. For a lot of them, their time will come even though they are frustrated at times. When they are committed to each other, things work out well.
