I was only in New Zealand for one night but it was one of my favorite countries. I was able to check out the Park Hyatt Auckland, which opened in mid 2020 after a significant delay. I have been wanting to check out this hotel for a long time.
The Park Hyatt New Zealand is a great place to stay. It has a luxurious design, friendly service, solid amenities, and good value for money. It is not a Park Hyatt but it is nice priced as such.
A standard room free night redemption at the Park Hyatt is 17,000-23,000 points. World of Hyatt points are 1.5 cents each.
I paid cash for my stay because it was a better value. It was 437 New Zealand dollars. The Hyatt Privé program was used to book me. Hyatt Privé rates are the same as standard flexible rates and include perks.
Some of these benefits are similar to my World of Hyatt Globalist perks, but getting an extra $100 credit was a nice extra perk. This is an even better value than redeeming points because I would have spent that much on property anyways.
At the moment, this is one of the cheapest Park Hyatts out there.
Wynyard's Quarter is where the Park Hyatt is located. I enjoyed walking around the area because there were so many restaurants, bars, and shops nearby. I don't think I'm an expert on the area, but I'm sure others will have more informed opinions.
The Park Hyatt is about 30 minutes from the airport.
I like the design of the Park Hyatt, but I don't think it gives me Park Hyatt vibes. I usually think of Park Hyatts as being intimate and minimalist, but this Park Hyatt feels grand, with 195 guest rooms and an atrium, and it also pops with color.
The reception and concierge desk are located in the area where the couches are located.
The hotel has a resident dog that is blind.
It is not the typical Park Hyatt feel, but I have a soft spot for atriums going back to my childhood, and they are not often seen nowadays.
There are some cute water features on the ground floor of the hotel.
The check-in process was easy to use. I was told that I had been upgraded to a rooftop room with a balcony because I was a Globalist member. While the hotel still had plenty of standard suites available for sale, I preferred this option as I love having a balcony.
The elevator took me to the rooms.
The pictures of the atrium were taken from above my room.
The room I was assigned was down the hallway from the elevator.
My room was larger than the junior suites at some other hotels. There was a bed in the main part of the room.
The bed was comfortable.
There were two couches, a dining table, and a chair in the sitting area. The hotel is on the water and I believe it has a nautical theme.
There was a variety of drinks and snacks for sale at the minibar right by the entrance.
I liked the setup of the bathroom. There was a room with a sink near the entrance.
The safe was next to the walk in closet.
There was a big walk-in shower in the main part of the bathroom.
The toiletries were from Le Labo.
The best part of the room was the rooftop balcony which was amazing. There was a side table and a couple of chairs on the balcony.
After I got to my room, I was given a carrot dip with some crackers and a bottle of water. The assistant guest services manager has the best handwriting I have seen.
The room is wonderful. This is a great example of where a non-suite is better than a suite. I would rather have a large room with a balcony and a view over a suite.
There is a large selection of both cardio and weight equipment on the second floor of the park Hyatt.
There is a pool on the second floor of the park Hyatt. I think it's cool to have a 25-meter pool in a city hotel, but I don't think it's the same as a luxury hotel. I'm not sure if it's the pool tiles or not. I am probably the wrong person to ask since I don't like pools.
The area on the second floor with the same hours was something I enjoyed. There was a jacuzzi, a cold plunge pool, a sauna, a steam room, and more. It's great to have access to this as a hotel guest.
I didn't get any treatments during my stay at the Park Hyatt. There are more details about the spa.
A menu driven by the farmer, fisherman, and seasonal ingredients is what Onemata is known for.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the ground floor from 6:30AM until 10:30AM on weekdays and from 7AM until 11AM on weekends. You can find the lunch and dinner menu here. The place was only open for breakfast.
Breakfast was included with both my rates. The restaurant has nice views of the water and floor-to-ceiling windows. It was too cold in the morning to sit in the outdoor area of the restaurant.
The Onemata breakfast menu can be found below. The "Kitchen Table" breakfast includes the buffet, any item from the menu, and coffee of choice, if your rate includes breakfast.
The latte I ordered was great.
The salmon with smashed avocado, soft boiled egg, sourdough, and rocket was exceptional. It was a nice change of pace from your usual toast.
The buffet is small but high quality. The juices were cold pressed and included apples and oranges.
There was a variety of foods in the fridge.
There was a variety of food.
This is not a buffet you would find in Southeast Asia or the Middle East, but the quality and overall experience was topnotch.
The lobby lounge at Park Hyatts is called the Living Room. The Park Hyatt is open every morning at 10AM and serves everything from drinks to light meals. The all-day dining and afternoon tea menu can be found here.
There are a variety of seating options in the living room.
I had a light meal here the afternoon of my arrival, which included a Greek salad and a drink.
The Park Hyatt has a coffeeshop that is open from 7AM until 2PM on weekdays and from 8AM until 3PM on Saturdays and Sundays. The place is popular with locals. It is more than a coffeeshop as it has legitimate food, and you can find the menu here.
The Panty feels more like a coffee shop than a hotel, and can be accessed from the street.
On my day of departure I had lunch here and had a glass of New Zealand wine.
I had the broccolini with almonds, and the fried egg on the side. The dishes were delicious.
The Captain's Bar is open from 4PM until 11PM on Thursdays, and from 4PM until 12PM on Fridays and Sundays. The menu has a lot of original cocktails and light bites. I didn't go but I did take a few pictures.
The service at the Park Hyatt was great. This isn't the most intimate hotel because you won't find the same level of personalization. The employees I talked to were friendly and eager to please.
I didn't have a single negative interaction from the front office staff to the restaurant.
The Park Hyatt is a new addition to the Hyatt portfolio and is located in New Zealand. The hotel has large and luxurious rooms, excellent food and beverage outlets, and a great location in New Zealand's largest city.
This doesn't feel like a traditional Park Hyatt, in terms of layout and design. It might be that Park Hyatt isn't as consistent of a brand as it used to be. This could be a really nice hotel. I am happy at this price point.
The Park Hyatt is a great place to stay if you are visiting New Zealand.
What do you think of the hotel?
