There's a lot of flying car prototypes out there, but Xpeng, a Chinese EV automaker andTesla rival, might have just presented the most absurd of them all.

The prototype of the X3 looks like a giant toy, except it has a huge version of the rotors you'd see on a commercial drones.

In a video of the X3's maiden flight, the vehicle slowly lifts itself off the ground and hovers over 30 feet. The X3 slowly flies forward and even manages to return to its starting point after stabilizing.

Heavy Hitter

According to the video, the X3 weighs nearly 4,300 pounds, so getting this absolute brick to fly at all is an admirable accomplishment.

It's design is eccentric. It's airworthy if the company's demonstration is any indication.

The long body of the car makes the X3 look like a bad helicopter.

According to Insider, the X3 is roadworthy since the rotors are supposed to be retractable, which is not the case for most flying cars, which care about the flying and are only called cars as an analogue.

Xpeng's prototype is not close to the level of the Jetsons yet. It doesn't look like there's room for a driver, and it's unclear how much of the interior is filled with hardware.

This isn't the only flying car. The X2 prototype, which is less of a traditional car than the X3 and looks more like a plane in the air, was unveiled in the Middle East.

There is a flying car race in which pilots go head to head.
