The cost of getting a product to market is explained in a drop-down menu on every product page. It doesn't include the salary of its employees, but it puts the cost into perspective. Materials cost $87.15, labor and storage cost $24.90, duties cost $14.94, and transportation cost $37.35 for this bed.

Tuft and Paw doesn't offer returns if your cat doesn't like it.

Cat scratching on modern Whisker Cat Silo

The photograph is of a whisker.

The company behind the famous Litter-Robots has a lot of nice looking furniture and even dog crates. The Silo had a pillow inside and scratch pads on the outside. Cats can sit inside or on top, or you can use it as a side table and keep the top for light décor.

This isn't as beautiful as some other options, but I like the gold accents. My cats didn't like it the way I wanted them to, but that's the way it is with cats. The furniture doesn't have to be returned. The brand says the vegetable-dyed pads are done for the safety of pets and the wood is used to better resist scratches. The title VI of the law is called Whisker.

There are window beds.

Beds that sit on the window make sense because cats love lounging in the sun. I've used the K&H Pet Products beds for a long time. The beige fleece has a good blend. If your windows don't have a way for them to sit on, there are options for you to use a cup.

My cat Huxley is a big boy so I'm always nervous. If you clean your windows and give the cups time to stick, the options from Kitty Cot and Tuft and Paw are safe.

The Cloud Nine Window Hammock has a black powder coated metal base and soft dark grey felt. I would recommend adding something soft to both, but I wish they could be attached with snaps or velcro, so they don't slip around if a cat jumps onto it.

It's the best scratcher.

Not every piece of furniture costs hundreds of dollars. I've used a few of PetFusions's loungers and they held up well. They're strong enough to support my weight and look cool. Cats can scratch one side and then flip it to a clean side.

You don't have enough room to spare? There is a cat scratcher from Target. I haven't used this particular one, but I have bought a lot of Boots and Barkley products for my cats over the years. My cats love it.

There is a couch or a cushion.

The work in progress cat couch can be used as a scratcher, a bed, or both. You can recycle the old scratcher if the base price includes a cardboard scratcher. For an extra $110, you can get a pretty cushion. Cats lounge directly on cardboard scratchers so you don't have to get a pillow right away.

I think it's expensive because it's simple. Work in Progress is not a large business. It's nice to support small businesses like this if you can afford it. Baltic Birch wood is used in the manufacture of the cat couch. It has been sealed and finished so it is safe for pets. The cover is made of linen and cotton.

Television scratchings.

I've been saving vintage TVs for years, hoping I'll find the perfect pet bed at a garage sale or antique store. It can be dangerous to take a TV apart, so if you want to do it yourself, you should ask a professional. If you want a home made version that doesn't involve an actual TV, the store MakerWorksLLC sells an $8 instructions manual with plans.

You can get a scratcher that looks like a TV. We haven't tried the bed option at Wayfair, which is $60.

There are litter boxes and enclosures.

The box is a great basic litter box.

Tuft + Paw Cove Litter Box

My cats are fine using plain old storage bins that I've cut an entry out of and sanded down the sharp edge, and it cost me just a few minutes to alter. Tuft and Paw's Cove litter box takes a litter pan and makes it look like a plant.

It will not move around if your cats kick it. If your cat has a high stream, the shelter will keep litter and pee inside. The included scoop and dustpan can be purchased separately if you need to replace them. I would like to see you buy the shelter separately. The litter box enclosures don't fit this box. The Rifiuti Litter Box Enclosure is a great option if you want to keep your litter box out of sight. A plastic litter box is included in the Haven Enclosingr.

Archie & Oscar Rena Litter Box Enclosure

If you put a litter box inside a piece of furniture that is meant to hide it, you can give your cats some privacy, as well as hide odors from your guests.

Tuft and Paw's litter box enclosures are some of the most beautiful pieces of furniture I've seen, but they're not cheap. Louryn Strampe, a writer for WIRED, tried this litter box enclosure from Wayfair and found it for about $150. It isn't as pretty as Tuft and Paw, but it doesn't look like a poop receptacle either, and there's plenty of room on top for some decorations to blend it in with your house.
