Some long time users of the social networking site could be made to rethink their habits by the presence of Musk.

Since Musk took control of the company, some public figures have threatened to stop using the service.

In the week after Musk's deal to buy Twitter closed, 11,535 of the accounts it monitored were deliberately deleted by their users. There was a 208% surge in account losses.

It is not possible to know how many of the deactivations were related to Musk. It's not clear if Musk's changes will attract more users or if there will be a surge in exits.

Some people seem to be rethinking how they use the platform after his first week as owner.

Some public figures are reconsidering how they use Twitter

If Musk implemented a $20 monthly fee to be verified on the platform, Stephen King would leave the social network. He had over 7,000 followers by the end of June.

Plastic Martyr, a singer and trans activist, threatened to leave the social networking site if Musk charged for verification, saying "Not paying a greedy billionaire $ to prove my authenticity with a checkmark I've had for years"

Musk said that the subscription would cost $8 per month and include other features, but that it could be alienating to some users.

Some people threatened to leave the platform over Musk's ownership. In a survey from April to July of nearly 8,000 people in the US, CivicScience found that Musk's favorability had plummeted after he said he would buy the micro-blogging site.

Nibel, who has over 440,000 followers, said on Monday that he was leaving the social networking site. He locked his account so he wouldn't be able to access it in the future. He had over 81,000 followers on his account.

Nibel decided to focus his time and energy on other things after some reflection. This is the end of my video games coverage.

Two days after Musk's acquisition was final, producer Shonda Rhimes said she was not going to hang around for anything. It's time to Bye. She had over 24,000 followers on her account.

It has been enjoyable. I've left. Sara Bareilles, who joined in 2007, said that she would see her on other platforms. She had over 13 thousand followers on the social networking site.

The accounts of Rhimes and Bareilles are still active even though they haven't used them in a long time.

People may be looking for other social media options.

The open-source social network Mastodon said that over 230,000 people have signed up for it in a week, and its user base has grown to over 650,000.

Kathy said that she liked Mastodon after making an account. She has 2 million followers on the platform that she joined in 2009. As of June, she had over 50,000 followers on her account.

Musk critics raise concerns about moderation

Musk has been critical of social-media moderation. He said he's going to form a council for content moderation.

Critics are concerned about a possible rise in misinformation on the social networking site.

Musk added to those fears when he deleted a debunked conspiracy theory about Paul Pelosi after he was attacked at his home.

While he's not ready to cut the cord yet, David Frum did log off for a while. He said that he was anticipating for the worst in regards to a rise in misinformation.

Hate speech was on the platform after Musk's purchase. The use of the N-word went up by 500%.

For those watching Musk's first week as owner, it's clear that the platform is changing and that could cause some users to rethink their relationship with it.
