The president of the National Basketball Players Association said that the controversy surrounding the antisemitic film can be used as a lesson for all players.

He made his first public statements on Irving on Saturday night.

He did apologize after he was suspended by the Brooklyn Nets.

He's shown a willingness to help others. I think he didn't understand the magnitude of the movie because he didn't watch it. I don't think he understood the magnitude of the people that were affected and how quickly hate can spread.

In his apology Thursday night, Irving wrote that the movie he had posted about "contained some false anti-Semitic statements, narratives, and language that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish Race/ Religion."

"It's safe to say that we know that Kyrie and all of us condemn antisemitism in any form," he said. I'm against it very much. I believe in promoting equality.

Since Irving's post went up, McCollum has been talking to the league. He didn't make a statement about it as NBPA president because he was still gathering information, but he did make a statement about the owner of the Phoenix Suns.

"I had conversations similar to what I am having now," he said. I am talking to the league. I'm talking to people in power. I speak to people with a Jewish background to get more information.

"This is an ongoing situation, so I don't feel comfortable speaking to certain things yet as I'm still gathering information and they're still deciding on what to do."

He said he can only speak for himself and that the players haven't been as forthcoming in speaking out against Irving as they would have liked.

He couldn't say what players were doing in their spare time.

The post of Irving could teach players about the power of social media, where they have millions of followers.

You need a platform to learn about this situation. He told them to be careful with how they use it. You have to be careful with what you post. This situation can be used as a learning experience for all of us. It's important to be careful with what you post.

"You have to know exactly what it is, and you have to research and educate yourself on all religions and all races so that you are comfortable talking to that." A lot of people were hurt and a lot of people were affected by this. It was a difficult thing to do.

With Irving having apologized and his suspension being handed down, everyone can start moving in the right direction.

It is important to condemn antisemitism. I believe in social justice for all. There is a social justice issue. The situation of social justice is still being addressed. I believe we're headed in the right direction.
