Liz Cheney said that the former CIA officer is dedicated to serving this country and her constituents and defending our Constitution.
The Washington Post reported that the cross-party endorsement came on the last day of early voting in the swing district.
In a phone interview with Insider on Saturday, Spanberger said that people were excited about the endorsement. Her voice is important when it comes to democracy issues.
As part of her efforts to build a political coalition, the Virginia congresswoman sought out the endorsement of Cheney. She had a strong working relationship with the Wyoming lawmaker, but she lost her position as House Republican Conference Chair because she stood up to her party.
The admiration was mutual.
In a recent appearance at Harvard University, Cheney, the vice-chair of the January 6 committee, named Spanberger and other Democratic women with national security background as members of congress that she has the most respect for.
"She'll say, 'I hope you don't mind, I mentioned you in an interview,'" said Spanberger. That is the beginning of it.
Cheney was asked if she would make an endorsement. Cheney said yes.
This is the latest endorsement for Democrats by Cheney. She's said that she would vote for Tim Ryan in the Ohio Senate race, that she'd campaign against the Republican in the Arizona governor's race, and that she'd campaign for the Democrat in the Michigan congress race.
A member of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors and a former police officer is challenging Spanberger. The contest is one of the most competitive and expensive House races in the country.
Cheney said that Vega was promoting conspiracy theories, denying election outcomes she doesn't agree with, and defending the indefensible.
January 6 looms over this race more than any other. A group of House members hid in the upper level of the chamber during the attack. She supports the release of January 6 rioters on a candidate questionnaire and has characterized Capitol rioters as "persecuted" and "shamed."
In front of a former state delegate's home, a group of Democrats, including Sen. Tim Kaine and Rep. Gerry Connolly, gathered for a campaign event.
"I've spent most of my adult life in service to this nation," said the man. I believe in this country more than any other place.
The crowd was told thatSpanberger had the "backbone" to serve in congress.
"I serve with a lot of people in the Senate who were there when we were attacked," he said. They told me what they thought. They are too scared to say it.
Sean McElwee, founder of the left-leaning polling firm Data for Progress, said thatSpanberger's battle was the closest thing to a 50/50 race he could have.
Republicans in Virginia are hoping to ride a national referendum on Biden's presidency and the state of the economy. Youngkin made a lot of mention of his win at the rally.
Youngkin said that nobody thought a Republican could win a governor's race. Did we bring people together? An outsider was elected as governor.
The governor was introduced by a four-and-a-half minute speech. The pitch was light on specifics and issues but made references to "government overreach" and "challenging the status quo."
The United States is the greatest country in the history of the world. We are running. She said we are at a crossroads. Over the last couple of years, you've heard about what's been happening to our country.
She downplayed her endorsement by Trump and distanced herself from some of her more right-wing positions.
She was caught on tape saying that women who have been raped can't become pregnant.
"Youngkin's coattails are about as far as his shot," said Kaine, after dismissing Youngkin's allusions to a "red wave".
Democrats think that a victory by Spanberger is important. The Virginia congresswoman said that democracy was within a framework of uncertainty, whether that be economic or the future of the country's political system.
She said that democracy issues are the number one issue for a lot of people.
There is a high percentage of government employees in the district.
"For a lot of our veterans, for a lot of our current public servants, our diplomats, our intel officers, you know, the police officers who literally defend in the Capitol on the day of January 6," she said.
Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell, an officer who responded to the January 6 attacks and lives in the district, recently revealed on social media that he supported Spanberger because of that issue.

The congresswoman is well-regarded by independents and some Republicans, so there was no downside for her to accept Cheney's endorsement.
"I think it's going to be close, but I think she has run a very good campaign and pulled off a tight victory in 2020." I have a lot of confidence in her.
There are signs that she wants to downplay her association with the right flank.
At the conclusion of the event, Vega referred to herself in the third person when speaking to reporters. She said that Yesli was on the ballot.
When a reporter asked if Trump's support would help her this year, she said she couldn't tell.
