Alex Ovechkin broke a tie with Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Howe for the most goals scored by a player with one franchise when he netted his 800th goal with the Washington Caps.
The record-breaking goal was scored against the Arizona Coyotes.
In the second period, Anthony Mantha andTrevor van Riemsdyk assisted on a power-play goal by Alex Ovechkin. In Thursday's loss to the Red Wings in Detroit, the Russian scored his sixth goal of the season, tying the record held by Howe.

The Caps drafted him first overall in 2004, and have been with him for 18 years. He has won nine goal- scoring titles, three Hart trophies as NHL most valuable player, and the Stanley Cup as the most valuable player in the playoffs.

Howe played for the Red Wings from 1946 to 1971 and scored over 800 goals. Howe's NHL career total of 800 goals is second all-time behind Wayne Gretzky's 894 goals.
