The launch date for NASA's mission to visit a metal asteroid has been changed. The launch date for the mission was missed because there wasn't enough time to test all the equipment and software. Staff will be moved off the planned mission to Venus in order to make sure it launches as planned.

NASA and its Jet Propulsion Laboratory commissioned an independent review into the issues which delayed the launch and have now announced how they will address the issues raised in the report.

Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate, welcomed the opportunity to hear the findings of the independent review board. The report is a canary in the coal mine and we need to address it. Information like this can help us for more than just Psyche.

Not enough staff on the project, communication issues, and the increase in remote work were some of the issues that contributed to Psyche missing its launch date. The Psyche project manager will be setting a hybrid work policy as a result of NASA's response.

The new staff will have to leave other projects to work on the Psyche mission. The VERITAS mission to Venus is being delayed because of this. The Venus Emissivity, Radio Science, InSAR, Topography, and Spectroscopy mission aims to map the surface of Venus and to learn more about the planet's atmosphere and volcanic activity. It's important to understand how Earth and Venus differed from one another.

The VERITAS mission will be delayed until 2031. DAVINCI, the upcoming Venus mission, is still planned to launch in 2029.
