LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. is located in the state of Florida A South Florida woman was arrested Friday on charges that she voted in both Florida and Alaska in the same election.
According to jail records, Cheryl Ann was charged with two counts of felony fraud.
According to a Florida Department of Law Enforcement news release, Leslie voted in both the 2020 federal and state primary elections in Florida and Alaska. Absentee ballots were used to submit her Alaska and Florida votes, and they were also submitted in person in Palm Beach County.
She told investigators that she worked as a physician assistant in multiple states.
The Florida Secretary of State's Office of Election Crimes and Security discovered the multi-state voting and shared it with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. According to investigators, there was a pattern of double voting as Leslie cast his votes in both states in the last three years.
The person was being held on a small amount of money. There was no listing of an attorney in the jail records.
Four people from The Villages retirement community were arrested on voter fraud charges early this year. State voting records show that two of the four people had no party affiliation. Three of them have been sentenced to diversion programs that will allow them to avoid prison time for voting more than one time. There is a fourth awaiting trial.
The last legislative session saw the passing of an election police bill pushed by the governor. Many talking points on voting problems have gained traction in the GOP after Donald Trump claimed that his reelection was stolen.
The 20 convicted felons were arrested for voting illegally in the 2020 election. Voting advocates say the cases were unfair because the defendants were able to register with their local election officials.
