According to a New York Times report, Ron DeSantis was a "total jock" who would party with students while he was a teacher.
When he was teaching at a prestigious private school in Rome, Georgia, he used to tell his students that he was going to the White House.
Gates Minis, a 2003 graduate of the school, said that he was a jock. He was very proud that he graduated from Ivy.
According to the Times, DeSantis taught at the school for seven years, from 2001 to 2002. The cost of a room, board, and tuition at the school is $50,000 today.
Trip Barnes said that he was one of the cooler guys. Other young teachers tried to be everyone's friend who wasn't as well known.
Barnes said that people liked him at Darlington and that he was smart and personable. The Florida governor had a bit of a superiority complex according to some other students.
Matthew said that many students were aware that Mr. DeSantis had just graduated from an Ivy League school.
"It felt like I was better than you," he said. All of us were just children.
Insider's request for comment was not responded to by a spokesman for the congressman.
Several students told the Times that DeSantis attended parties with high school seniors and drank alcohol at graduations.
"As an 18-year-old, I remember thinking, 'What are you doing here, dude?'" one former student told the Times.
An incident in which a student bragged about the amount of milk he could drink was recalled by former students. A student threw up in front of other students after being told to do so.
Adam Moody, who was a student at the time, is now a teacher. It's impossible for me to put myself in that situation. The sense of humor is a bit cruel. The mentorship is cruel.
The students had positive memories of the coach.
"He helped a lot of us out there on the field, especially when some of us were distracted by being young adults," Graddy said. He helped a few of us become better baseball players and better people.
