The app on the iPad has been updated to support Musk's subscription service. You have to pay for Blue to get verified on the platform, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow.

The new subscription isn't currently available. Some users may see us making updates because we are testing and pushing changes in real time.

To promote the idea that paying for the new plan is the best way to make sure people actually see your tweets, the notifications screen in the updated app defaults to displaying it from verified users.

When users sign up to Blue, they get a pop-up that says "Blue looks good on you, enjoy your verified checkmark", but without the opt-in for displaying a "verified" label on their profile. Nima Owji gave us a glimpse of the new "official account" labels that could be applied to notable users, as well as a "verified account" confirmation on profiles, which indicates an account's verified " because it's subscribed to

It is not clear when verification will go live or when it will arrive on the phone, but it seems like it will happen soon. The developers were given a deadline of Monday, November 7th to complete the changes or be fired.

Verification is the only feature that will be available with the subscription. Other perks, like fewer ads, the ability to post longer videos, and priority ranking, will be available soon. It's only available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK at the moment.

Musk said last week that he was going to give access to paywalled articles, but he didn't include it in the update. He pushed to make the "edit" button available to all users, not just subscribers, after pulling the ad-free article perk. Product trust and safety, policy, communications, and ethics were some of the departments that were laid off by Musk.
