Jack Dorsey apologized for the mass firings at his former firm and said he was sorry for the growth of the micro-messaging service.

Half of the social media giant's staff are being fired.

Mr Musk said he had no choice but to cut the workforce as the company was losing money.

Staff on the platform expressed their anger at the firings.

In a statement posted on the microblogging site, Mr Dorsey, who quit as CEO in November and left the board of directors in May, said that the staff are strong and resilient. Even though it is difficult, they will always find a way. Many people are angry with me. I am responsible for why everyone is in this situation because I grew the company too fast. I'm sorry for that.

I'm grateful for everyone who's worked on the platform. I don't think that's going to happen in this moment or ever.

The need for dismissals was endorsed by his statement. Mr Musk's takeover has been supported by a 45 year old man.

The South African's takeover was the "singular solution I trust" and that the 51-year-old Mr Musk was the right man for the job, according to Mr Dorsey.

Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass were part of the team that created the social networking site. He wrote "just setting up my twttr".

There are fears that the cuts could hurt the firm's moderation efforts.

The firm's policies remain the same despite the dismissals, according to Mr Musk.

Volkswagen, General GM and Pfizer are just a few of the major brands that have stopped advertising with the micro-blogging site.

In order to cut costs and make money in different ways from the platform, Mr Musk has been looking for ways to charge a monthly subscription fee for users to be verified on the platform.
