In an ironic rebuke of the hypothetical mass transit tech for more parking spots, a mile-long Hyperloop test tunnel has been dismantled by the company, according to a report.

It's sad and symbolic that the idea of a vacuum-powered, ultra-fast transportation system has been thrown out the window.

Musk promised in April that The Boring Company would try to build a working Hyperloop.

The fastest way to get from one city center to another is less than 2000 miles.

The Boring Company hasn't yet realized that dream. The tunnel was opened at the Las Vegas Convention Center. That's a far cry from the idea of a Hyperloop, which aims to blast passengers through a vacuum tube at up to 760 mph.

Hyper Memorial

The idea has been difficult to turn into a reality. Virgin Hyperloop did manage to launch the first passengers through a test tunnel back in 2020, despite not making much progress in building out a full-scale test track.

Before it was demolished, the test tunnel was supposed to be a testing ground for the idea from the year 2017.

The CEO of Precision Construction Services said that they had a sentimental moment when they knew the tunnel would be taken down. It was like a memorial service.

A parking lot has been put up by Musk.

China successfully tested a Hyperloop-like train inside a vacuum tube.
