A New York man who had been on the run for about a year was arrested while on vacation at Disney World.

According to court documents seen by Insider, a federal postal inspector spotted Quashon Burton, who was on the run from police after he was implicated in an identity theft scheme, at Disney World.

He was charged with conspiracy to steal government funds, theft of government funds, and identity theft.

The US Postal Inspection Service tried to take Burton into custody at his home in Brooklyn in November 2021, but he wasn't there. Burton's mother told officers that he wouldn't be self-surrendering, according to court documents.

Burton had a "complex web of identities that made his crimes difficult to investigate," according to a federal complaint.

He has demonstrated an ability to mask his true identity to evade law enforcement. He has shown a willingness to lie to avoid being arrested.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office placed a deputy outside the park where they stopped Burton with two of his family members after he was spotted at the Animal Kingdom.

According to the deputy's report, Quashon questioned why he needed to give his identification when he was involved in suspicious activity. "Later, I told him he was the subject of a warrant, and when I tried to take him into custody, he braced his arms." I told him to put his hands behind his back, but he didn't.

Burton was taken to the Orange County Jail and placed in federal custody after he was charged with resisting an officer without violence.

Burton, who was on parole for a separate charge, was visiting Disney World under a fake name and refused to identify himself.

He was in the park under a false name at the time of his arrest. After fingerprints confirmed his identity, he continued to tell law enforcement that he was not Quashon Burton, according to court documents seen by Insider.

Burton should not have been granted bail because he failed to appear in court before, according to court documents.
