Aaron Paul and Thandiwe Newton in HBO's Westworld.

The news that Westworld was ending came late Friday afternoon. The creators of the show, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, had planned to end the show with a fifth and final season.

The creators and cast are still waiting for their money. They will all be paid for the fifth season even though it won't happen. The core cast had pay-or-play deals in place before the show aired its final season. A show that already costs a lot to make is expected to be paid up to 15 million dollars. It was said that the third season cost $100 million and that the fifth season would have cost $80 million. The first two seasons were eight-episodes, and the last two were eight-episodes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan and Joy are walking away with something. The creators struck a nine-figure deal with Amazon before the fourth season of their show aired. Prime Video credits the duo as executive producers of the sci-fi series The Peripheral, and they are also the show's showrunners. Nolan and Joy will be paid as if the show actually got that far after they were granted permission to remain on Westworld up to a hypothetical sixth season. The amount is undisclosed, but given the show's prestige, one can assume it would be a lot.

It sucks that the pay only applies to the main cast and creators, and not the show's crew, or even leftover supporting cast members who would've made the jump from season four to five It might be better to let them finish the show on their terms instead of losing all that money in a dumb way.
