The company temporarily closed its offices on Friday as it told thousands of employees of mass layoffs. One of the people who lost their jobs was Aakash Raina, who was employed by the micro-blogging site to report abuse.

Content moderation on the platform has become a concern despite the company making drastic cuts.

The richest man in the world bought the social media giant, and since he took over, researchers have noticed a surge in hate speech.

The bird is free when you acquire the social media platform.

Musk believes in free speech. He said in a statement in April that free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy.

When he was talking about freeing the bird, he was saying that he was going to make it unconstrained.

The online community was likely going to try to take advantage of it. So we began to watch.

The impact of Musk's ownership was studied on the day after the transaction.

4,778 instances of hate speech were shared within the first nine hours of Musk taking over as CEO.

Hate speech was never more than 84 times in an hour. He said this was just a big jump.

The study looked at the use of certain terms on the platform. There was an increase in racial slurs, religious terms used to insult Jews, and negative slurs against the LGBTQ community.

All of those terms spiked when he became CEO.

The use of the N-word increased by 500% according to research by the cyber research organization.

The NAACP met with Musk to express their concerns about the life threatening hate and conspiracy that have arisen under his watch.

It was a good meeting. The civil rights and social justice community is cautiously optimistic, according to Johnson. What is he going to do? We're waiting to see what happens now that he said all the right things.

Several issues were discussed, including free speech, maintaining the election integrity unit, and conducting thorough reviews before allowing people to return to the platform.

He agreed that the issues that were raised were based on concerns about the rise in racial hatred, ethnic hatred, demonization, and the platform that could actually cause communities and individuals harm.

We walked out of the meeting with a good feeling. Johnson said that they were cautious to see what that meant in terms of protecting people and communities.

Some high-profile users say it's too late and that they will leave the platform. "I'm shocked and appalled at some of the 'free speech' I've seen on this platform since it's acquisition." Hate speech under the veil of 'free speech' is unacceptable and therefore I am choosing to stay off the social networking site as it is no longer a safe space for myself and other people of color.

The NBA star acknowledged the negative things that have been said on the platform in a message on October 29th. If this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because it is frightening. Hate speech is free speech.

The social media platform has not made any changes to its moderation. Some users may have used Musk's arrival as CEO as a call to spread hate.

For most of the time, this spike and these terms were a joke. They are speculating. It was a prank where a lot of people decided to create multiple accounts and just use the same words.

Most of the accounts that used hate speech were not real. The level of hate speech on the platform hasn't changed much since Musk arrived.

This was described as a red flag. He said that we should be seeing hate speech levels return to their previous levels if moderation is taking care of this. We don't see that.

The company has had a drop in revenue due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists. It was extremely messed up. Free speech is being destroyed in America.
